You can develop and publish using 42 familiar tools and processes, such as your existing Developer Console account 43 and your current distribution and pricing settings. It's easy to participate 44 — the sections below outline the process.
45 46
1. Understand guidelines and policies
47 48
To prepare for a successful launch on Google Play for Education, start by 49 reviewing the guidelines for educational apps in Google Play and the policies 50 that apply to your apps. See <a 51 href="{@docRoot}distribute/googleplay/edu/guidelines.html">Guidelines for 52 Apps for details.
53 54
Also, make sure that your are familiar with the policies that your app must 55 comply with, including 56 content 57 policies, the <a 58 href="http://play.google.com/about/developer-distribution-agreement.html" 59 target="_policies">developer agreement, and <a 60 href="https://play.google.com/about/developer-distribution-agreement-addendum.html" 61 target="_policies">Google Play for Education Addendum.
62 63
2. Design and develop a great app for education
64 65
A great app for educators and students is designed for classroom use, looks 66 great on tablets, and delivers a compelling feature set for teachers and 67 students. If you are developing an app for education, make sure that it is 68 appropriate for K-12 classrooms, offers educational value, and is refined to 69 offer a polished, high-quality tablet experience.
70 71
Assess your app against the criteria listed in <a 72 href="{@docRoot}distribute/googleplay/edu/guidelines.html">Guidelines for 73 Apps and plan on supporting them to the greatest extent possible. In some 74 cases you might need to modify your features or UI to support the requirements 75 of the classroom use-case. It's a good idea to identify those areas early in 76 development so that you are able address them properly.
77 78
With Google Play for Education, optimizing your app for tablets is a crucial 79 part of getting your app ready for distribution to educators. A variety of 80 resources are available to help you understand what you need to optimize for 81 tablets — a good starting point is the <a 82 href="{@docRoot}distribute/googleplay/quality/tablet.html">Tablet App Quality 83 Guidelines.
84 85
Throughout design and development, it's important to have a suitable device 86 on which to prototype and test your user experience. It's highly recommended 87 that you acquire one or more tablet devices and set up your testing environment 88 as early as possible. The recommended hardware device that replicates the Google 89 Play for Education environment is the Nexus 7, which is available from Google Play and other stores.
90 91
Proper testing and quality assurance are key aspects of delivering a great 92 app for teachers and students. Make sure you set up a <a 93 href="{@docRoot}distribute/googleplay/edu/guidelines.html#test-environment"> 94 proper test environment to ensure that your app meets guidelines under 95 realistic conditions.
96 97
3.
