17
Mesa 8.0 Release Notes / February 9, 2012

18
19

20 Mesa 8.0 is a new development release.
21 People who are concerned with stability and reliability should stick
22 with a previous release or wait for Mesa 8.0.1.
23

24

25 Mesa 8.0 implements the OpenGL 3.0 API, but the version reported by
26 glGetString(GL_VERSION) depends on the particular driver being used.
27 Some drivers don't support all the features required in OpenGL 3.0.
28

29

30 See the Compiling/Installing page for prerequisites
31 for DRI hardware acceleration.

61
Bug fixes

62
63
64
Changes

65

66
Removed all DRI drivers that did not support DRI2. Specifically,
67 i810, mach64, mga, r128, savage, sis, tdfx, and unichrome were
68 removed.

69
Removed support for BeOS.

70
Removed the obsolete (and unmaintained) Windows "gldirect" and
71 "ICD" drivers.

72
Removed the linux-fbdev software driver.

73
Removed all remnants of paletted texture support. As required by
74 desktop OpenGL, GL_COLOR_INDEX data can still be uploaded
75 to a color (e.g., RGBA) texture. However, the data cannot be stored
76 internally as color-index.

77
Removed support for GL_APPLE_client_storage extension.

78
Removed the classic Mesa r300 and r600 drivers, which are superseded
79 by the gallium drivers for this hardware.

80
Removed the dead Gallium i965, cell and failover drivers, which were
81 either broken and with nobody in sight to fix the situation or
82 deprecated.
